In the same vein, Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company [SPDC], Mr. Peter Robinson, was still being grilled as at the time of filing this report by 6.30 pm yesterday in connection with an alleged $240 million oil drilling equipment import bribe scam.
However, feelers from the EFCC headquarters indicated that Robinson might also temporarily lose his freedom in view of the determination of the investigation team to ensure that he cleared all grey areas on his alleged role in the scam.
Robinson and Mera were among 23 top officials of Halliburton and Royal Dutch Shell who were summoned by the EFCC to appear before a probe panel on Tuesday over the alleged multimillion dollar bribery..
Operatives of the anti-graft commission had last week raided the two companies where about 21 of their expatriate and Nigerian high ranking officials were picked up. They were granted administrative bail over the weekend while their travel documents were seized.
Apart from the Halliburton and Shell CEOs, the managing directors of Technip and Saipem who are also allegedly linked to the Halliburton bribe scam were also invited to appear at the EFCC office in Abuja. All the invited officials reported for interrogation on Tuesday, except Mr. Robinson, the managing director of Shell who pleaded to be excused for a day on health grounds and eventually reported yesterday.
The EFCC had on Tuesday seized the passports of about 17 suspects under interrogation over the alleged $240million bribery scam. The commission’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the detention of the Halliburton MD and the interrogation of the Shell boss.
