The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has called for entries for this year’s edition of the ACCA Simpson Scholarship.
The scheme provides five of its students worldwide with financial support and books to complete their studies.
The Country Manager, ACCA Nigeria, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ademola, said interested applicants may apply.
"I urge our ACCA students who fit the criteria set by the Simpson Scholarship Board to apply early enough. They have till the end of April to apply and winners will be announced in June," she said.
She challenged the ACCA students who have registered via the accounting body’s office to be motivated by Mr Adeeso Adetoye, who was a recipient of last year’s scholarship award.
"Last year, Mr Adetoye, one of our own, made us proud as he was among the five ACCA students worldwide who won the award. Therefore, I call on our ACCA Nigerian students to sustain the tradition and possibly win more of the scholarship awards," she said.
ACCA’s Head of Students Support, Lucy Taylor, said applicants should not underestimate stiff competition for the award.
"Each year without fail, we are truly impressed by the quality of the applications we receive for the scholarship. We never have an easy choice to make and I don’t expect this year will be any different," she said.
The scholarship is awarded to talented students who can best portray how it would help them reach their potential in a 1,000-word essay – in addition to earning the highest standards in the exams that they have already sat for.
The winners will either have their fees paid for up to five years, or until they attain membership. Winners also receive a set of study texts.
The scholarship is sponsored by an endowment by ACCA Fellow, Muriel Simpson, who requested that it recognises students who have shown themselves to be of sufficient merit and distinction in their examinations.
Last year’s winners emerged from Bahrain, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, and Vietnam.
