IGI donates X-ray Machine to Bowen University Teaching Hospital

INDUSTRIAL and General Insurance (IGI) Plc has donated an ultra modern mobile X-ray equipment to the Bowen University Teaching Hospital (BUTH), Iwo, Osun State.

The equipment was presented to the school on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at a ceremony attended by top officials of the IGI Group and the management of BUTH.
Executive Vice Chairman of IGI, Mr. Remi Olowude, said: “This donation has been made to help boost the quality of healthcare management by the Bowen University Teaching Hospital.”
He explained that the donation was in line with IGI’s commitment to ensuring the effective take-off of the Teaching Hospital, saying: “It is our hope that the Bowen University Teaching Hospital will grow to become one of the leading centres of medical excellence in Africa in due course.”
The Dean, College of Health Sciences and Chief Medical Director of BUTH, Professor Oluwole Adebo said that the mobile X-ray equipment would form part of the institution’s Accident and Emergency Unity, which would soon be commissioned.
“It is an important tool to the hospital and it will enhance the upgrading process of the hospital’s diagnostic centre in our quest to train world-class medical personnel who are expected to deliver excellent healthcare services.”
The Acting Director of Clinical services, Dr. Olufemi Awotunde, who received the equipment on behalf of the chief medical director, described IGI’s donation as “a gift of humanity, which, because of its mobility, will help us to solve the problem of having to move patients in critical conditions to the X-ray centre.”
In 2009, IGI made a similar donation of an ultra modern X-ray machine to the Health Centre of Crescent University, Abeokuta to complement the university’s healthcare services on its campus and its environs.
