Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strike begins today Nov 10th

Last efforts made by President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria to avert the three-day strike action called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the delay in the enactment into law of the N18,000 new national minimum wage failed last night as the two parties failed to reach any agreement to stop the strike.
Jonathan convened an emergency meeting with the labour leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja but at the meeting, which lasted for about an hour, he failed to convince them to shelve the strike action.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the meeting, Acting President of the NLC and Chairman of the Strike Committee Comrade Promise Adewusi said the meeting did not change anything and the strike would continue this morning as scheduled.
“As far as we are concerned, the labour strike will continue,” Adewusi said. He added that NLC and the Trade Union Congress [TUC] would meet today to take a common stand on the issues.
