Police hunt assailants for plucking the eye of 84-yr-old woman

The Police in Minna, Niger State, have begun an intensive manhunt for a group of cow rustlers suspected to have plucked the eye of an 84-year-old Fulani woman, Hajiya Kaka Hadiza. The incident, according to Daily Sun findings, occurred at a village near Maikunkele some five kilometres from Minna, the state capital.

Hadiza was left at home by her children and grandchildren who travelled to Minna for business. While the octogenarian was relaxing in the hut, her assailants sneaked in and plucked her eye. The old woman was met in a pool of blood by the relations when they returned. She was rushed to the General Hospital, Minna, where she is receiving treatment.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Michael Zuokumor, who visited the victim at the hospital, described her attackers as inhuman and wicked. He promised that a thorough investigation would be carried out to ensure the perpetrators were brought to book.

Dr Mohammed Bosso, who operated on Hadiza, did not give details of the injury, but said that an analysis would be carried out to determine if the left eye was not affected. Meanwhile, Zuokumor confirmed the arrest of a teenage boy (names witheld), who disguised as a woman and was seen parading the streets of Minna.

The 15-year-old boy was sighted by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad and when accosted, could not explain his mode of dressing. The Police said that the boy who claimed to have come from Kano, had been taken to court.
